Rainbow Rice

Here it is...Rainbow Rice!

It's super easy to make.  Get a 5 lb. bag of rice.  Divide it into 6 Ziplock bags.

Add food coloring to each bag (I put 10-20 drops per bag).  For the secondary colors I followed the mixing instructions on the food coloring box for white icing.

Now add a splash of rubbing alcohol.

Shake it up!  Seal the bag and shake it until all the rice is covered.  Add more food coloring/alcohol if needed.

Let it sit.  I let mine sit for 2 hours.

Spread each color onto a cookie sheet to let it dry.  If you have multiple cookie sheets you can do them simultaneously otherwise just do one at a time.  Be sure to shake it up every once in a while to make sure it all gets dry.

Once it's dry it's ready to go.  You can mix them together or use separate colors.

This is great to use in I Spy jars or sensory bins.  If your child has great fine motor skills have them separate the colors into a muffin tin using tweezers.
